Slí na Mná Feasa - Translates as ‘‘Way of the Wise Women’’ in Irish Gaelic. Slí na Mná Feasa is an exploration of the wise women traditions, ancient goddesses, landscape and feminine mysteries of Éiriú/Ireland. It is an honouring & remembrance of the medicine woman within us, which is awoken through our relationship with land, spirit, womb & heart. It is a re-dreaming of these ancient ways in a context that is relevant here and now.

This is an invitation to Come Home, to the Ancient Ways of the Wise Women.

Awakening this memory in our blood, our cells - we sing our souls home and reweave the fabric of a lineage of wisdom keepers, with the intention to create a legacy of beauty in our footsteps.

Slí na Mná Feasa is an ancestral activation transmitted by various women who have embodied the teachings that they are sharing on various topics of the Feminine Mysteries - designed to help us remember, activate and embody the wisdom that is encoded into our DNA.

Many of us have come from broken lineages and ancestry - with little knowledge of our ancestral ways, stories and traditions. Our souls have yearned for the Grandmothers, the Elders to guide us on our path and to share the wisdom of our ancestors and the Land with us.

In this modern world which in many ways is so fragmented - we are so needing the wise-women to reclaim their medicine, and stand as guardians of the Earth. All of us had ancestors that were wise women, tradition-keepers, medicine weavers & healers - and in this container we acknowledge that we are those ancestors too.

In Slí na Mná Feasa we journey through 3 moons together, from Imbolg to Bealtaine. Moving with the seasons we attune ourselves to the natural rhythmn of the Earth, Sky and Sea. Each week we have a different topic, guest facilitator & teaching.

Through lineage, land, language, story, song, grief, womb, heart, body & spirit -

We journey to activate & remember the wise-women that we are.

I will be guiding this container with the support and wisdom of 10 other inspiring women. Women who have touched a part of me and changed me - who have responded to their calling of an Bhean Feasa.

This journey is guided by the more-than-human realm too, as it is deeply inspired by the Goddesses of Éiriú, by the Tuatha Dé Danann & Ancient Ones.

  • This is for women who are wishing to connect with spiritual ancestral wisdom of Irish origin. Ideally participants will have Irish ancestry or some sort of spiritual relationship with Ireland. Women living in Ireland, or Irish diaspora living on other lands are equally welcomed.

meet your wise women facilitators

  • Aoife Lowden (Main facilitator and guide)

Aoife Lowden is a visionary daughter of Éiriú. Working intimately with the land, ancestors and elements, Aoife is devoted to remembering the ancient ways of Éiriú and surrounding Isles. Born into a broken lineage without a connection to her ancestors, Aoife has been on a quest to re-weave the fabric of her lineage into a tapestry of wholeness again. Her ancestry is that of Irish, Scottish, Anglo-Saxon & Norse descent. Her recently reclaimed surname is ‘‘Lowden’’ a Scottish name which means a ‘‘fire on a beacon hill’’. Aoife is passionate about her ancestry and supports others in repairing their ancestral relationship - including those of the Irish Diaspora further afield.

Through fire and native plant ceremonies, sacred site tours, retreats, and ancestral celebrations, Aoife has been working on healing retreats since 2018 as a sacred site guide, ceremonialist and plant medicine facilitator.

Aoife offers a space for others to heal, pray, and listen to the land. She is passionate about reclaiming prayer - as it is a pathway to healing & connection with the divine. She is a bridge and translator between the worlds. Her deepest learning received has been by the fireside, in the heart of the forest, where she lived for some years – this experience cracked open her ability to converse and commune with the Plants & Trees. It is from this place that she teaches, and shares embodied wisdom that has come directly from her lived experiences.

The prayer that Aoife carries in her heart & work is that we all may remember who we are - as sacred beings, belonging to Earth - and from this place, reclaim our power and sovereignty, act accordingly - to restore balance & equanimity in the world. That we may leave a legacy of beauty, health and prosperity for the generations ahead. That we may heal & feel the wounds of the past - processing undigested grief that our ancestors simply could not - lightening the path for our children to come. Re-weaving the threads that were shattered & fragmented through colonisation, through capitalism & patriarchy - restoring the sacred, returning to the old ways, that our stories may be told, that our traditions may be honoured & passed on. That our cultures may be cherished and celebrated. That land may be tended to, that the wells & rivers may run clear and pure. That our mother tongue may fill our mouths and be spoken to our children. That we may reclaim what was stolen, broken, taken away and forgotten. Stoking the embers of a fire almost lost, but could never be quenched. This is the remembering we have come here for. This is the prayer of my life.

  • Gemma McGowan

    Week 13 - Thursday 25th April

Gemma McGowan, from Co. Meath has been walking the path of Priestess and Bean Feasa for over 20 years. Seeking truth and genuine connection to the Divine source started in childhood, when a strong interest in world mythologies and a highly inquisitive mind caused Gemma to reject the prescribed religious, dogmatic teachings being taught in Irish schools.

Studying music and theatre in University in England and being away from Ireland, made Gemma realise the depth of connection she feels for her homeland and the ‘uaigneas’ (deep loneliness) she feels when she leaves. Studying the origins of theatre spoke to both the inherent ritualist and storyteller in Gemma’s soul.

Early in her spiritual development Gemma was attracted to the Wiccan path which was one of the very few Pagan/Spiritual paths available at the time in Ireland, and trained to 3rd Degree High Priestess over 7 years. Wanting to delve deeper into healing work Gemma then studied Shamanic healing practices, Kinesiology and sound healing.

Gemma has worked as a dedicated Priestess to Brighid and Mannanán and in close working relationships with a number of other Irish deities including Boann, an Cailleach, Dagda and Lugh.

In recent years she has been working closely with ‘‘Aoife’’, a lesser known Goddess of the Tuatha de Dannan who was cursed, turned into a crane bird and eventually became the body of And Cor Bolg/the Crane Bag, one of the most iconic magical items in Irish Mythology. Gemma has developed a new system of magical practice based on the story of the Crane Bag and the magical items within it, with Aoife as the co-creator and vessel of that magic.

Gemma has hosted many large scale ritual events and has performed many retellings of Irish mythological stories, combining story, song and sound. In 2023 Gemma studied Organic Horticulture with a view towards self sufficiency and sustainable agriculture. Gemma lives in Meaths, World Unesco Heritage site on the banks of the river Boyne, named for the Goddess Boann, very close to the ancient monuments of Dowth, Newgrange and Knowth and spends much of her time growing herbs and vegetables, walking the land with her dogs and singing to the ancient landscape of Bru na Boinne.

What people say about aoife

  • ”Aoife Dé Dannan is a fíor bean feasa na h-Éireann. She holds the wisdom of many grandmothers in her young being. An elder before her time, she embodies the strength of an Dúir naofa and the gentleness of an Fiadh bán. Authenticity shines through her being. Aoife is the guide our time now urgently needs. She is leading the remembering, retrieving, and recovering of the healing energies of Mother Earth, of the lost wisdom practices of our ancestors – their deep knowing of the sacred plant medicines, their natural connection to an talamh naofa and to the Otherworld, their sacred celebration of the seasons and high holy days, and the especial importance of holding ceremonial fires in the sacred places of Éire.”

    Áodhammair

  • ”I am deeply grateful for your leadership and love in this work, Aoife. As I’ve reflected on this last year, my journey and connection to spirit has deepened significantly since I joined in on the Huath zoom call you held in April. That opened up my world in a deep way and the offerings I’ve been able to join since, the Samhain fire ceremony and this mugwort journey, have been very powerful in helping me to connect with my identity and journey. I feel the powerful love and wisdom of the ancestors very genuinely through you; it’s encouraging and exciting to experience the old ways returning and to see the momentum grow.”

    Shannon

  • ”In Irish mythology Airmid was the divine herbalist of the Tuatha Dé Danann. Only she knew the secret healing properties of Irelands native plants. Aoife embodies the spirit and gift of Airmid, bringing them to life in our contemporary times. It was such a magical and profound experience to be part of her mugwort journey. I highly recommend her offerings and do so, with all the women I work with.”

    Jen

  • ”This sacred journey with Aoife has helped me in so many ways from deepening my connection with not just mugwort but with so many sacred plants. Allowing me to remember the sacred healing that these plants bring on a spiritual and emotional level. This journey also helped me to uncover the deep messages from my subconscious in my dream space, to clearing and healing so much dense energy in my womb space. Aoife’a ability to hold the depts of the raw feminine is incredible and the ancient wisdom that flows through her allows for deep deep healing. This is much more that a journey with mugwort this is a deep container of support, healing and transformation. Would 100 percent recommend this sacred journey with Aoife.” –

    Participant in Mugwort course

  • ”Aoifes experience as a space holder really comes through. She is there to hold you in space and respect your own journey. Balanced, beautiful and respectful. Her knowledge of the land is inspiring.” –.

    Retreat Participant

  • ”I was at Aoife’s fire ceremony at summer solstice. It was an amazing experience. Since the fire, a host of family/ancestral discoveries have been shared with me – out of nowhere – I’ve connected with part of my family I had no strong relationship to. From this connection I’ve learnt about my great grandmother was a healer. I was always told I had similarities to my great grandmother but I had no context – it’s like a whole new side of my family has been opened and information is just flooding in – Aoife’s work with the ancestors is incredible and I’m blessed to have witnessed and been a part of it”.
